A nest is a place for growing and sanctuary. To fly the nest is to gain independence, come into your own. Every nest has a lineage that can show its weight even before we leave it.
A lineage of ceramic boxing gloves leads to this nest, deflating and breaking, hard molded masculine forms become like fragile eggshells in this nest.
In making the boxing gloves, I made liquid clay castings, and left the seams, letting the process of reproducing shape the outcome.
Gloves that were too thin cracked like eggshels, ones that were still soft, I let collapse, or purposefully deflated by creating a vaccuum underneath the shape.
